Open Flash Exploit

It has been brought to my attention that there is a security exploit with Open Flash Chart that allows hackers to upload files to users servers that will execute malicious code. This affects all previous version of Maian Media and you are STRONGLY encouraged to upgrade. Not doing so will leave you vulnerable to attack.

Even though I try to ensure that Maian Media is problem free it is built upon many other open source projects. Open Flash Chart did not know about this exploit and I have not really received any type of response from posting in their forum.. In future versions it will be removed and be replaced with other software or maybe google analytics. I am in the process of adding other enhancements to this application but they will not be available until the end of the year. When having to juggle family and work life this project takes a backseat because after all it’s free. Until next time.

To Be or Not to Be...Stable

First off shout out to Marc Wolf of http://www.nibiri.com/ that has helped me big time with testing 1.5.8. This version not only comes with a bunch of bug fixes but also some goodies for both free and silver users. I apologize to those that have run into issues with the 2.5 capability. It is hard to set aside time to work on this component. It has evolved far from it's humble beginnings and with your help we can make it better.

Silver users have a new Zoo template and Yahoo web player.

I will eventually update the demo site so people can view all of the front-end features of the application.

Thank you to the couple of new silver subscribers. I’m going to be adding more to make the store more customizable.

I have made one change that will affect users if they have made a custom template. Some parameters where accessible using the following syntax.

$tplDisplayFront[‘params’]['c_display']

Now you will only have to use

$tplDisplayFront['c_display']

Better Late than Never

I am now releasing Maian Media 1.5.6 that is now compatible with Joomla 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 and 2.5. Users are strongly encouraged to upgrade as future development will now be based off of this version. 2011 was a year of changes for me. I took a 9 month hiatus from development, support and music to focus on my business and personal life. In that time Joomla went through 3 major releases. It took a lot of time to get this to work in all version of Joomla and I hope that Joomla will slow down a bit because it puts a big burden on developers to keep up with there ever changing framework. From now on I will try to keep new features independent of Joomla’s API as much as possible. It becomes to much of a headache later one.

Now that I have released a new version of Maian Media I decided to decrease the Silver Renewal fee from $25.00 to only $5.00 dollars. Marc Wolf of http://www.nibiri.com/ has provided a template that works with the zoo framework. If you are not already a silver subscriber please consider becoming one to help support development. Since I first converted this script from Maian Music 1.2 it has taken on a life of it’s own. Thanks to all that have given my component a fair shot. I do admit that in the past there have been some flaws but I am working to correct those as time goes and build upon this component so that it become a framework within it’s self. My whole purpose of creating this component is to give the power back to the people who make the music. For too long artist have not had the ability to control all aspects of how their music gets out to the masses. It is my hope that with your support I can increase the visibility of this system and change Are Times to a music portal where people will be able to find independent artist and support them directly.

displayDownloadItemPage($data, $link)

Working Hard or Hardly Working

There have been some major changes around me lately that have impeded the progress of getting Maian Media 1.6 compatible. I just released a new version 1.5.5. This is the most stable release and I think I will be able to remove the Beta tag from the title. I’m pretty happy with the 1.5 version so far however I feel that there is a lot more to go including the 1.6 compatibility.

I’m is the process of change and as things change with me they will change with this website. I am going to take it back to it’s original roots, music. My business with IT staffing has started to pick up slightly however I am going to create a separate website for that. One more thing on my already full pale but this is the path I choose.

I want to thank all of the independent artist and web administrators that have stuck with me through the glitches. I plan on improving not only on the website but the software as well.

Maian Media Update

Maian Media 1.5.3 has been released. This version corrects a number of issues.

Some of the issues are:
Custom Text in the Tools Section
Sub menu, language flags and search box not displaying
Category DB error

Going forward all upgrades can be applied automatically This new version will upgrade all previous version by comparing table schema’s with the current version installed. So now you can just install the component over the current one.
